Our Center, Our Home:
Living Hope Community Center and Living Way
Evangeline Ministries classes are held at the Living Hope Community Center Building in Capri, Cape Town. Living Hope has graciously allowed us to use part of their multi-purpose center to help these women, many of whom are involved in HIV and AIDS support groups conducted by Living Hope. When Evangeline started the sewing ministry, it used machines that had been describd to Living Hope. Thanks to our donors, we have outfitted the class with new sewing machines. While Living Hope allows us to use their building rent-free, all expenses for our outreach program are paid by Evangeline Ministries.
Formed by the Fish Hoek Baptist Church and led by its pastor, the Rev. John Thomas, Living Hope Community Centre has fashioned an HIV and AIDS response program using a comprehensive medical, spiritual and social approach. It runs a Health Care Center to care for terminally ill people and nurses others back to health. Living Hope counsels people with HIV and AIDS and their families, and leads a prevention program for kids and young people that engages thousands of people every year.
Living Hope has become a recognizable name in South Africa and in many parts of the world. It has also earned the highest praise of the government of the Western Cape, South Africa for the strength of its work. In 2007 it won the first International Award for Courageous Church Leadership awarded by World Vision and Bill Hybels of the Willow Creek Church.
Living Hope has expanded its scope of ministry to include an economic emphasis, in part, because of the example of Evangeline Ministries. We now work most closely with this new arm, called Living Way.
